Prof. Rohan W. Jayasekara

Emeritus Professor of Anatomy and Former Dean of the Medical Faculty of the University of Colombo. Having obtained a PhD from the University of Newcastle in the UK, founded the Human Genetics Unit in 1983 (Founder Director) and established the first routine clinical genetics service in Sri Lanka. Continues to lecture (48th year) at the Faculty of Medicine Colombo. Published 72 research papers in peer reviewed journals and made 154 research presentations at conferences. Has been the recipient of the Presidents Award for research for many years and was conferred the National titular Award Vidya Jyothi in 2017. Has delivered 1 Oration, 48 invited lectures and made 16 Keynote speeches as Chief Guest at Professional Colleges and Educational Institutions.

Conferred the fellowships of the Galton Institute of UK and the Royal Society of Biology. For his contribution to the fields of surgery and ophthalmology he was conferred the fellowships of the College of Surgeons and the College of Opthalmologists of Sri Lanka.

Founder President of the Anatomical Society of Sri Lanka, former President of the Sri Lanka Association of Sports Medicine, a former member of the National Sports Council, and the Founder Chairperson of the Board of Study in Sports & Exercise Medicine of the PGIM, Colombo. Presently the Chairman of the Interim Board of Study in Clinical Genetics at the PGIM.
